Improving Lives and the Environment, one Community at a Time
Marginalized communities are often blamed as the primary factor affecting the health of the environment. While there may be some truth to it, these communities are often forgotten by governments, and have additional hardships placed on them by large industry that impact their land. Therefore, they are obligated to resort to activities deemed environmentally unsustainable just to meet the daily needs of their families.
Most Environmental NGOs have focused their efforts on pure conservation efforts instead of using an integrated and adaptive conservation approach that incorporates the cultural and day-to-day activities of the communities that put pressure on environmental resources. TerrAmada recognizes the importance of continuity and the inclusion and cooperation of these communities into any conservation and restoration initiative. It is committed to improving the lives of these forgotten communities and utilizing realistic approaches that promote restoration and sustainable use of degraded habitats and the protection of native flora and fauna.
Our Objectives
Environment
Climate change, deforestation, unsustainable resource use and contamination are very real factors affecting the world we live in. TerrAmada hopes to reverse some of these trends through ecosystem restoration, cleanups and by creating environmental awareness.
Communities
Community involvement is critical if we are to protect our environment. We achieve this by providing consistent help, tools and awareness to impoverished communities that contribute to the problem because they lack the basic needs to survive each day.
Partnerships
At TerrAmada, we rely heavily on the development of partnerships with local and foreign organizations to grow and expand our community and environmental efforts and to draw invaluable knowledge from similar projects and organizations elsewhere.

What we need now!
Our Initiative
La Guajira is an arid region considered the “forgotten Department of Colombia” where poverty is the rule rather than the exception. Poverty is most pronounced among the Wayuu indigenous settlements. We aim to improve the quality of life of these communities and to restore degraded ecosystems with a cooperative and adaptive approach that incorporates their cultural values.
